Health & Safety training
Health & Safety Training
Health & Safety forms an integral part of each training course, from induction to COPC.
By incorporating Health & Safety into each course we can reinforce the importance of this subject; repetition is far more effective than a one-off training course.
Induction training
The Health & Safety section of our induction programme covers:
Chemicals
- COSHH
- Task Risk Assessments & Method Statements
- Product Risk Assessments & Manufacturers’ Safety Data Sheets
- Chemical Dilution Control Measures
- Emergency Spillage Procedure
- Safe use of Chemicals
Machines and their use
- Machine Safe Use and Care
- Equipment Failure Procedure
- Manual Handling
- Basic Electrical Safety Guidelines
Security issues
- ID, PPE and Security
- Correct Signing in and out Procedure
- Fire & Evacuation Procedure
- Warning Signs
Reporting
- Reporting Building Defects
-
RIDDOR - The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations
The above are backed up and reinforced by the staff handbook and a site-specific manual. This on-site manual contains copies of all task and product risk assessments, together with the manufacturers’ safety data sheets. All staff have access to this manual.
On-site Training Courses
Are designed to be far more task specific for each individual site with health & safety built into each element. This gives the trainer the opportunity to reinforce all the health safety issues and control measures raised in induction training.
BICSc COPC (soon to be CPSS)
The techniques in the scheme link Health & Safety practises using the sequence system which if followed step by step will enable the operative to complete the tasks correctly and safely. Once again this gives the trainer the opportunity to reinforce the safety issues and control measures.
A candidate that has failed to achieve the institute’s standard of workmanship or met all the Health & Safety points for each individual task when being assessed will be deemed to have failed that task and be referred for further training.
Specialised Health & Safety Training
At Lewis & Graves all of its managers and supervisors have been trained in First Aid, Manual Handling, COSHH, Task and Product Risk Assessments and COPC (soon to be CPSS). We believe this is a fundamental and essential part of every manager’s and supervisor’s role.
When new Health & Safety legislation is introduced we run workshops across all contracts.
CHAS – Contractors Health & Safety Assessment Scheme
Lewis & Graves has to demonstrate annually compliance with, and sound management of, the current complex safety legislation. Our accreditation includes assessment of our training courses.
